About Me and what i do...
ABOUT ME
I started my small decorative painting business right after graduating from Marymount University in Arlington, VA. with a degree in Interior Design. Prior to that, I spent two years at The University of Maryland studying Architecture and Fine Arts. While in Design School, i worked in a small Home and Garden Shop where I started painting custom garden signs on old pieces of slate shingles for customers. I then started hand painting and selling old furniture out of a small room in the garden shop that I rented by working there part time. I taught myself some faux finishing techniques using the walls and painted my first mural of a tree at the entrance of the store. And THEN...one day, a customer came into the shop and asked if I would come to her house and replicate a faux finish in a custom color palette. After that, another customer asked me to paint a mural in the nursery of their newly adopted daughter (what an honor). From there, a very unexpected career path began for me. All from a part time job, some great guidance and faith from those garden shop owners, and a little passion for painting, Stockard Designs was established (1995) and I've worked doing what I love for over 25 years now.
